Wish
My inspiration for this one is Starbucks’ theme for their Christmas promotion this year which is “Permission to Wish”. Last month, nakatanggap kami ng invite from Indie Pinoy asking if we could write or compose a song for this album that they will release this Christmas season. It will be a collaboration of local indie artists and the proceeds will be donated to the Philippine National Red Cross to help the victims of typhoon Ondoy. I got really excited about the project because I have always wanted to help those people who were greatly affected by the storm. I have friends in Starbucks who have lost, not only their homes, but some of their family members as well, habang sinasalanta ng bagyo ang bansa, and somehow it made me feel helpless about the situation. Is there really nothing that I can do to help?, I keep asking myself that question until this opportunity came. The challenge for me here as the composer was to compose a song that has a lasting effect and to create a universal theme to the feel of the song. What I mean by that is, tipong hindi lang pam-Pasko yung awit. And so I came up with WISH. Kasama ko ang banda nung sinusulat ko yung lyrics, and kept asking them “What’s your wish?” at naglaro pa kami ng parang “fill out the blanks” kasi may mga stanza kami na putol-putol and I tried to look for that certain element that would complete the thought of the each phrases and so I made the whole composing process more interesting and interactive. And in the process, I even included MY wish in the lyrics and above all the ULTIMATE wish which is to live a long, fruitful, healthy, and happy life. We all had fun creating this song and I will be deeply honored to share this song to everyone. Always have faith and never lose hope, and all your wishes will come true.
